Iain moffatt - beginners boat building tutorial drawings for plank on frame construction are rather more complex. they show the ‘proper’ outline of the hull (curves rather than straight lines) and generally have many more frame stations. they also show the hull cross section at each frame station. the whole is normally called a lines plan.. The building board is a t shaped 2x4 with a 1” by 4” top. it is clamped in a vise when working on the yacht. the frame support pieces are 1”x1” by 6” attached with drywall screws to the building board.. The monograph describes the build method as "an easy introduction to plank on frame model ship construction", which is ideally suited to my level of building (which is mainly kit based/kit bashing). when the monograph arrives some time this week, i can carefully assess the method of the build and develop a build plan for the model..
To mark the line of the wale plank, place the template on the surface of the building jig and align the frames on the drawing with the frames on the model, then mark each frame with a pencil where the wale line intersects the frames..
